The faces of the Mathews homeplace

First Generation at Jessamine Creek Spring – Carpenter Pleasant Cook and wife Mary Ann Chowning had daughter, Mayme Cook. Her brothers had their own farms and she inherited the homeplace.

Second generation – Mayme Cook married John S. Mathews and they had two sons, John W. and Pleas. When Mayme and John both died in 1940 less than one month apart, sons John W. and Pleas inherited the farm. Evidently, John W. sold his half of the estate and headed out West.

Pleas Cook Mathews married Fanny Dean Corman. With Pleas, Fanny Dean would give birth to Marjorie, Robert, Kenneth, Marita and David. John Shepherd was the eldest sibling, Pleas’ son by first wife Mary Alice Kiger. Kenneth is my father.
